Tugboats, Tugboats, Tugboats: Viking King

Tugboats, the semi's of the ocean. They pass Powell River pulling logbooms, construction barges, scows of hogfuel and chips for the local paper mill, train barges, barges loaded with
semi-trailers and chemical tankers and more. And I take their pictures as they pass.

Here you will find some of the photos I have taken of those tugboats as they pull their tows up and down Malaspina Strait and the surrounding waters. Big ones and little ones, good looking tugs and some not so.

Viking King

Viking King - 2013-06-24

The Viking King - a classic converted wooden tug, and a local connection, as she was built in Lund in 1921, by Thulin Brothers as the Niluht, eventually passing into the ownership of Viking Tug Boats. Now owned by Harken Towing, she was given a total rebuild by Commodore's Boats of Richmond, BC.
Not the best of photos - I saw her coming down Malaspina Strait and headed her off at the pass, but she beat me by a few lengths. A very nice looking boat.
