Tugboats, the semi's of the ocean. They pass Powell River pulling logbooms, construction barges, scows of hogfuel and chips for the local paper mill, train barges, barges loaded with
semi-trailers and chemical tankers and more. And I take their pictures as they pass.

Here you will find some of the photos I have taken of those tugboats as they pull their tows up and down Malaspina Strait and the surrounding waters. Big ones and little ones, good looking tugs and some not so.

Owl

Owl - 2014-07-09


Owl, another old wooden tug converted to use as a yacht, here shown in the South Harbour taking on fuel. She was built by McKenzie Barge and Derrick in 1942, in Dollarton, BC as the Louise Idaho. She became the Owl in 1965, and is now an American registered yacht with Seattle as her home port.

    I love the old classic boats, but I think you need to be able to maintain them yourself to really appreciate them. We just don't have the tools our skills for that. - Margy
